Rejected Songs That Turn Into Successes!
I have spent the past week in Vail, Co for the Season of Song Songwriters Festival – such a beautiful place and event! www.seasonofsong.com Morris and Linda Lawrence put together the first annual event and did a great job of bringing some of the world’s greatest songwriters to Vail in one of the most beautiful settings for an event. Plan to be in Vail next fall for the 2nd year of Season of Song.
Mark D. Sanders and Beth Nielsen Chapman were on stage telling stories of a couple of their songs that I found inspiring – to never give up on a song:
Mark co-wrote “This Ain’t no Thinking Thing” with Tim Nichols and a female artist’s record label called and wanted to change the first line of the song, “I been thinkin’ ’bout our love situation All this attraction in the present tense I’ve reached the only logical conclusion
Love ain’t supposed to make sense”. Mark said, “No” and the artist passed on the song. A couple years later the song was #1 for Trace Adkins!
Beth told a story of “Another Five Minutes” that she wrote forLoretta Lynn, as Beth had a friend that was close to Loretta. Well, Loretta passed on the song as she said she had a song with an idea close to Beth’s song. Five years later “Another Five Minutes” was #1 for Lorrie Morgan!
Keep pitching your songs! Do you have a story about a song that was rejected that turned into a hit??
