Ten Years in Nashville – THANK YOU!
October 15, 2012 celebrates the day that I (with my great friends, Vernon and Jade Jones and their son, Brandon) loaded up that 19 foot U-Haul with a ten foot trailer behind it full of stuff (too much stuff) as my last day on Lake Norman, NC and my friend from WV, Roger Hughes flew to Charlotte to drive that big truck up I-77 (I followed in my car loaded with stuff too) and turn left on I-40 to Exit 201 Charlotte Pike to 701 Brook Hollow Road in Nashville – TEN YEARS AGO – October 15, 2002.
Gary Talley was living in the house and we’d become friends over the years – told me he’d moved into a house and thought we’d work out as roommates. A couple months earlier, Steven McClintock sent an e-mail that he had a house for rent, Danny Arena and Sara Light forwarded that e-mail to Gary. The power of relationships and how we end up in life!
I remember that drive across I – 40 – calling people, making notes (that I will find going through my stuff one day) and knowing this is one of those days that will change my life – and YES it did – for the better!
The 701 house had the room for all my stuff, Gary and I got along well, the house opened up opportunities for the 112 months of 3rd Sundays at 3:00, the 7 guitar BQs in the spring, a place to set up the office for the foundation of the Nashville Muse (ten year anniversary in February 2013) and a new life of those great people who write songs, that understand my goals and dreams, of a great community that cares about each other, keeps us on the journey through the good and challenging times and understands dreamers like us!
I have been so blessed with so many “Nashville Moments” and making friends and aquaintences with so many people, so many times I look around and say, “Thank You Lord” to be in the company of some of the greatest people in the music business and life in Nashville!
So many of you – I will not mention names because I would leave too many of you out or the list would be too long for a blog – it would have to be a book – of those of you that have enriched my life and kept me on this journey for the past ten years. You help me keep my faith that I am supposed to be in Nashville and have not let me give up during tough challenges along the journey.
My co-writers, studios, sponsors, those who attended events I promoted or was fortunate enough to be a sponsor, those of you who have made dreams come true for me, the meals we have shared together – “Our community is like a bunch of Baptist – two or more are gathered and we have to break bread or have beverages” as I say. My parents, Betty and Jerry Goff have been supportive over the years. Friends from my former towns of Charlotte, NC and my hometown of St. Albans, WV have been so supportive over the years with encouragement.
I recently moved into a new house near Percy Priest Lake and love the new place with deer in the yard every day, quiet neighborhood and only a 10 mile drive West on I-40 to Music Row.
You make me the poster child that God sends smarter and greater people in life to keep me on this journey.
THANK YOU NASHVILLE for ten of the happiest years of my life! We do not know what the next ten years – or even tomorrow hold and I will do my best to make great things happen on the journey. Know that YOU have made a difference in my life and I feel so blessed to still be in Nashville! I Say “Thank You Lord” about ten times a day and especially every time I drive to Nashville, see the city, drive down Music Row and for all of YOU in my life!
